Pieroway & Safari Club International

Pieroway would like to introduce the custom rod that has been donated to the Calgary Chapter of Safari Club International for the 15th Annual Gala Fundraiser to be held Thursday June 10th 2010.

The rod was custom made with a solid Elk antler reel seat and burnt burl cork handle paired with a metallic copper IM8 graphite blank. These medium/fast action blanks allow for ease of casting and increased distance. Silver oversized SIC guides complete this rod. It was crafted in an eight weight, ideal for landing powerful fish like pike, salmon and bull trout.
Pieroway is proud of its partnership with SCI for this fundraiser. All that have seen this rod have commented on the craftsmanship and overall feel and appearance of this work of art.

A Day With A Legend

Pieroway Rod Company would like to take this time to thank Mr. Barry White for taking time out of his schedule to spend the day with us on the banks of the Bow River. Barry told stories, jokes and taught proper casting techniques to us, in order to help us become more knowledgeable and efficient using our own equipment. From picking up his first fly rod from the local hardware store, to being taught by Jim McLennan, to working with Lefty Kreh and Joan Wulff; the man has some amazing stories. Easily the most recognizable face on the Bow River, Barry's knowledge on the Bow River and flyfishing in general was invaluable to us today. Thank you Barry; our friend.

As a side note, of all the lessons we recieved today, James also learned that tying on a fly for casting lessons was not a good idea. Geoff learned to not walk behind James as he was trying to work out his tailing loops. Bobby learned to have the camera ready at all times for such occasions. On a good note, it was Jimmys best hook set of the day; and Barry showed us how to remove a #12 Blue-winged Olive from Geoffs finger.
